Cape Mendocino,a family business was founded in 1993. Our website features Cape Mendocino Apparel and a collection of sailing photos. Our garments are made with Malden Mills performance fabrics. We have captured a bit of the beauty of the redwood coast lifestyle in all our original designs. Warmth with whimsy is our motto. The geographical Cape Mendocino, California, is located at Latitude 40º 26.4' N., and Longitude 124º 24.3'. Located 185 miles north of the San Francisco Bay entrance and 367 miles south of the Columbia River entrance. Cape Mendocino is a mountainous headland, the legendary landmark of the old Spanish navigators and the galleons from the West Indies. The cape is the turning point for nearly all vessels bound north or south. In view of the dangers in the vicinity, it should be approached with considerable caution in thick weather; the bottom and the currents are very irregular. It is in the latitude of great climatic change; the winds do not blow home so violently in the bight south of it, and the amount of rainfall increases rapidly to the north. Fog is more prevalent south. The strong northwest winds of summer are less violent south of the cape, which forms a parallel lee for vessels working their way north. |
